The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) enables people with disabilities to live more independently and take part in their communities through various funded support and services. Living with a disability can present many challenges including complex health issues and limited functional capacity. But the NDIS-funded support can make a significant difference in improving the quality of life for people with disabilities. If the participants require assistance managing a health condition because of their disability, the NDIS may provide funding for disability-related health supports like Community Nursing Care.

Disability-related health supports are funded by the NDIS only when the health condition of the participant is directly related to their disability. It can include a range of supports such as dysphagia support, continence support, wound and pressure care support, and podiatry support, among others. But some disability-related health supports can be delivered only under the supervision of a qualified practitioner like a registered nurse. In such instances, Community Nursing Care is included in the NDIS plan to provide support to the participant or to train a support worker. This support ensures that quality care is available to the participants in the comfort of their homes. Some of the supports that may be provided through Community Nursing Care are complex bowel care, subcutaneous injections, complex wound management and medication management.
