Benefits of Taking Short Term Accommodation Breaks for NDIS Participants

NDIS Short Term Accommodation (STA), including respite is a support hat provides a safe and supportive place for NDIS participants to stay for a short period away from home, usually up to 14 days at a time. It’s designed to give participants a change of environment where they can enjoy new experiences, build skills, and meet new people. During an STA stay, participants receive personalised care from trained staff who help them with daily tasks and offer a range of activities based on their interests and goals. STA is also beneficial for the families and primary caregivers of participants, giving them a chance to rest and take a break from their caregiving duties. This temporary arrangement supports the well-being of both the participant and their caregivers.

From learning to manage daily tasks to exploring new hobbies and activities, STA offers participants a chance to work on their goals. With access to trained staff who support their respite journey, participants can gain greater confidence and independence. STA
accommodations often incorporate activities that encourage social interaction and engagement with other participants, offering a valuable opportunity for socialisation. Through group activities, outings, and shared spaces, participants can build friendships and
meaningful connections. STA locations are often designed to be welcoming, accessible, and engaging, with activities that encourage participants to try something new. This change of scenery and routine can reduce stress, improve mood, and even improve the participant’s mental health. STA services are flexible and allow participants to focus on specific personal goals. Depending on individual needs, these stays can include skill-building activities that
target independence, social skills, or personal growth.

The NDIS recognises the importance of goal-oriented support, so STA can be tailored to encourage achieving specific goals. STA funding covers the cost of accommodation, disability care, food, and activities. Usually, funding is for group support, so you may share assistance with others unless you need individual help because of your disability.

Classy Life is a registered NDIS service provider and we offer STA stays that include comfortable accommodation, nutritious meals, and a variety of engaging activities—all aimed at enhancing independence and personal growth. Let us support you and your loved one on the journey to a more independent future!
