Moving out of the home of their parents and living in a place on their own is often a distant dream for a lot of differently-abled individuals. That’s because the provision of care and support that they need to move out from the safety and protection provided by their loved ones is often lacking
One of the primary goals of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is to
help people with disabilities to live independently and build their capacity to take care of
themselves and become active members of their community.
An important step in being independent in life is when you make choices regarding your living arrangements. Individualised Living Options (ILO) is an NDIS support that enables participants to choose where they live and with whom they live. It also involves the support that the participants will require in their new home environment.
Moving out of parents’ place and having a home of one’s own is an important milestone in adulthood. This seemingly normal transition in the life of an able individual is not the norm when it comes to the lives of people struggling with disabilities.
