Supported Living Made Simple: A Better Way to Live for NDIS Participants

Supported living plays an important role in disability support by promoting independence, dignity, and inclusion for individuals with disabilities. It moves beyond the traditional model of care by giving ‘choice and control’ to people with disabilities develop
life skills, and live in environments that reflect their goals. Supported Living, often delivered through Supported Independent Living (SIL) or Individualised Living Options (ILO), provides flexible and personalised support for people with disabilities.
Supported Independent Living (SIL) is a crucial NDIS support for participants with higher support needs who require help throughout the day and overnight. This support can include personal care, cooking, developing daily routines, and supervision to ensure safety. It
is most commonly delivered in shared accommodation, but it can also apply to people who live alone, depending on their circumstances and level of disability support needs. SIL is well-suited for people who need active support for more than eight hours a day and some level of support 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Individualised Living Options (ILO) offer a living environment that aligns with the goals of the participants.
With ILO, you can decide whether you live with a host, with chosen housemates, or on your own with a carefully tailored network of formal and informal supports. This disability living support is typically built in two stages: first, designing the support arrangement, and then implementing and adjusting it over time. Individualised Living Options (ILO) are suitable for NDIS participants who are 18 or older (or 17 and preparing for future living arrangements), need at least 6 hours of daily support at home, and are ready to explore and design a living arrangement that reflects their personal goals and support needs. Both SIL and ILO are designed to help participants pursue their home and living goals. The key difference lies in the level and style of support. SIL offers more structured, high-intensity daily support, while ILO provides greater flexibility, drawing on informal support networks as well. and we specialise in delivering personalised supported living services that enable participants to lead more independent and fulfilling lives.
